We are delighted that pupils at The Green Room School have completed their Arts Awards for 2016 and following the moderation and exhibition last week they have passed with flying colours. 9 pupils achieved a Bronze Award and 8 pupils gained a Silver Award. Bronze and Silver Arts Awards are the equivalent to gaining a GSCE, Silver being a grade A-C and Bronze a C-E.
The students worked really hard in all aspects of the Award, which is designed to enable students to explore the arts as a participant, an observer and by researching artists.
They produced diverse work in their personal projects from making a zombie film where different pupils created the props and zombie makeup to designing an alternative wedding dress.
Silver students had the opportunity to work alongside arts practitioners on up-cycling projects, textile and printing workshops, working as a drama practitioner teaching in a local school and working with a professional make up artist. They found this first hand experience a fantastic opportunity to look into future opportunities in the arts. They all had the opportunity to develop leadership skills in the skill share day for the Bronze students and the ‘Hey Hey’ film day for the Silver students - watch out for a brilliant promotional film on The Green Room school to follow from this work.
The moderators written response to seeing the work was “they have done an amazing job in supporting young people” He was blown away with the quality and quantity of work that was produced.
Well done to the kids and staff for a great Arts Award year - we are already looking forward and planning for what we can do next year, offering the Bronze, Silver and introduction of the Gold Award, equivalent to half an A-level.
