Last week saw the introduction of a new yearly event in the school calendar, The Green Room Festival 2017. All staff and pupils spent 3 nights camping at our other site, the beautiful Chimney Farm in Surrey, staying in luxury bell tents, motor homes and even the farm house. Each day was filled with a variety of activities to choose from making the most of everything Chimney Farm has to offer. After arriving and settling in to camp on Monday, we kicked off the afternoon activity sessions with the options of kayaking or paddle boarding on the lake, an animal tour, arts and crafts or fishing. Many of our pupils conquered their fear of water and ended up diving into the lake multiple times! After a short break pupils then had the choice of more fishing, open fire cooking, pool time or just chilling at the campsite. After an amazing dinner there was yoga by the lake, cricket or more arts and crafts. Having done our best to exhaust everyone we left the pupils to relax by the campfire before sending them off to bed.
On Tuesday, after a quick morning swim and breakfast, everyone set off for West Wittering to enjoy kayaking, beach games and sandcastle building. We headed back to camp just in time before the rain set in for the evening. Luckily we have an amazing farm house with an aptly named ‘big room’ for everyone to avoid the downpour for a while and spent the evening having a movie night, relaxing on bean bags and eating popcorn.
On Wednesday the morning was spent either reading, doing arts and crafts, a hike, animal jobs or raft building before lunch and preparing for the battle of the year, The Green Machine vs The Age of Orange to fight for victory and win The Green Room Games cup! Having lost for the past 2 years, the Orange team were determined to win and after an afternoon battling through various competitions such as Capture The Flag, Ridiculous Relay, The Great Egg Toss and diving and bombing competitions, The Age Of Orange finally beat The Green Machine to become The Games Champions!
After a quick rest everyone got ready for the final festival hippy party and enjoyed an amazing dinner of pulled beef burgers by gourmet caterer Dublicious. After dinner was the award ceremony and leavers speeches to say goodbye to our current year 11s followed by a disco, with our very own 6th former, Jamie Sutton on the decks! When the disco was over, there was music round the campfire for a while before everyone went off to bed.
Thursday morning we all packed up and headed back to The Green Room, all exhausted but on a festival high after what was truly an amazing and memorable experience for everyone involved. We can’t wait till next year!
